Peer Helper

Job Details

Peer Helpers use their experience to help new or younger students navigate school and new situations. As a Peer Helper, you would be paired with one or more students, and would check in with them weekly or a few times a month and see how they’re doing, how you can help, and give them general advice and support. You would then report back to the Northern Compass Staff, from whom you would have regular contact, support, and access to additional resources.

This is a great flexible work opportunity for current students or those recently graduated! It is a paid position, and training and work will be done remotely. Meeting with your paired student may be done virtually or in person (this is flexible, although most likely will be done online or through the phone).

Qualifications

Peer Helpers should:

  • have finished one or more years of post-secondary (college, university, trades, or bridging programs), or have graduated from post-secondary recently,
  • be comfortable supporting high school or post-secondary students as they navigate their studies,
  • be from a Northern community or have experience/a strong connection to the North,
  • be available to work for 2-5 hours a week (this is flexible but may be higher some weeks and lower other weeks),
  • have a reliable device (laptop, tablet, or computer) and internet connection, since most mentoring will be done virtually.
