NYA is Home.
Our place to share. Our place to grow.
Since 1998, Northern Youth Abroad has created environments where youth from Nunavut and the Northwest Territories thrive and feel cared for. A permanent home is our next dream, and it builds on that same principle.

Why a home, and why now
A home of our own would be an investment in our future, and a milestone for a little organization with big dreams and a willingness to work hard for those we serve.
Founded in Nunavut, expanding to the Northwest Territories in 2005
From one program and 10 youth in our first year, to multiple programs and almost 1,000 youth served each year
of combined service from our staff and board
What a permanent home makes possible
Owning our home gives NYA stability.
The office space our staff need to keep serving Northern youth.
Where we can host our Participants and share with partners and community.
A place where youth living in Ottawa for school can study, receive tutoring, or have a meal.
Gardens where food and medicine can grow, and a quiet place to escape.
A place of love and laughter
For 15 years, our annual Orientation and Re-Orientation were held at a camp east of Ottawa, with a tiny kitchen and no electricity in the sleeping areas. What stands out is not the rough edges. It is the bond that all of us who spent time there felt with that place: Participants, volunteers and staff. It was a place of love and laughter. That bond to a place, to the land and to a shared space is what fires our passion to give NYA a home of its own.
